KL Rahul won the toss and elected to bat first. Quinton de Kock started the first over from Khaleel Ahmed with a couple of streaky boundaries, one off the outside edge and another off the inside edge. But Khaleel struck with back-to-back blows, trapping de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal lbw. Khaleel could have had Marcus Stoinis for a golden duck but dropped the return catch.
At the other end, for once, Rahul batted with ultra-aggressive intent by cracking 5 fours and a six in his knock of 39 (22)—that is a strike rate of 177, something rarely seen with Rahul these days. However, he lost Stoinis and then Nicholas Pooran for single-digit scores to googlies from Kuldeep before the LSG skipper, too, perished to the left-arm wrist-spinner. Kuldeep finished with figures of 1/20.
Ishant Sharma and Mukesh Kumar got rid of Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya with short balls, and LSG sank to 94/7 at the 13-over mark.
Young Ayush Badoni and Arshad Khan held on for a couple of overs before LSG’s 35-ball drought of a boundary was ended with two consecutive fours from Badoni. The pair collected a spate of fours in the last three overs. Eventually, their partnership of 73* (42) lifted LSG to 167. Badoni brought up his third IPL fifty, ending with 55* (35), while Arshad scored 20* (16).

In the chase, Delhi lost David Warner early owing to some bad luck as he missed his lap shot off Yash Thakur, and the ball hit his pads before bouncing on the pitch and gently knocking the leg stump enough for the bail to fall.
Nonetheless, on his debut, Jake Fraser-McGurk took to the IPL like a fish to water. The 22-year-old Aussie looked unfazed and went about his way—an aggressive way—as he did in the BBL earlier this year. He pulled Thakur for a majestic six to open his account before collecting a four and a six off Arshad.
Fraser-McGurk’s proper assault came on left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya. The young Aussie blasted three consecutive sixes of Pandya, and that was effectively the game for DC. By the time he was dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq, Jake Fraser-McGurk had smashed 55 runs in 35 balls and Delhi were well on course for a successful chase.
At the other end, Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant continued their good return to form this season. Pant, in particular, has looked more and more like his old self, getting boundaries behind the square and tumbling on the crease. Shaw scored 32 (22) and Pant scored 41 (24); both were dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi.
Delhi won by 6 wickets with 11 balls to spare, and moved up to the 9th spot, pushing RCB down to the bottom position in the points table.
Score summary: Lucknow Super Giants 167/7 in 20 overs (Ayush Badoni 55, Kuldeep Yadav 3/20); Delhi Capitals 170/4 in 18.1 overs (Jake Fraser-McGurk 55, Ravi Bishnoi 2/25). DC defeated by LSG by 6 wickets.
