Lizaad Williamson Ruled Out Of IPL 2025: Lizaad Williamson Ruled Out Of IPL 2025: Ahead of the IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians have roped in 30-year-old South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch as a replacement for seamer Lizaad Williams, who will be missing the upcoming tournament owing to an injury.
Lizaad Williamson Ruled Out Of IPL 2025
Williams, who played two games for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024, was roped in by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 mega auction for his base price of INR 75 lakhs. But the right-arm Protea pacer has been ruled out of the season.
Bosch has extensive experience in T20 leagues around the world, having featured in 86 T20s so far. He has featured in all three SA20 seasons for three different teams. Last season, he was part of the title-winning MI Cape Town unit, where he took 11 wickets in 8 matches.
For South Africa, he has featured in one Test match and two ODIs. On his Test debut against Pakistan in Centurion, Corbin Bosch became the first South African player to hit a fifty and take a four-wicket haul on debut. His all-round show helped South Africa seal their place in the ICC WTC final.
In the IPL, Bosch was part of the Rajasthan Royals squad but didn’t get to make his IPL debut. With MI looking a bit thin on their pace-bowling resources this year, including uncertainty lingering around Jasprit Bumrah’s participation, MI are likely to give Bosch a go.
At MI in the IPL 2025, Bosch will reunite with his MI Cape Town teammate, opener and keeper Ryan Rickelton.
Corbin Bosch to miss PSL 2025 after IPL deal
This signing of Bosch by MI for the IPL means that he will have to forgo his deal with Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 2025. The all-rounder was a diamond pick in the draft by Zalmi but will have to skip the competition this year in order to be available for the IPL, as the PSL will be played in an April-May window, directly clashing with the IPL, which will run from March 22 to May 25.
Overall, Corbin has played in 86 T20s, snaring 59 wickets at a good economy rate of 8.3, with a best of 4/19, and has scored 663 runs at a strike rate of 113.
He was recently part of South Africa’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad but didn’t get to play any matches.
Meanwhile, Williams is the second Mumbai Indians player to be ruled out of the IPL 2025 after Afghanistan’s mystery spinner AM Ghazanfar, who suffered a back injury.
Mumbai Indians will begin their campaign on March 23 against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai.
Last season, under new captain Hardik Pandya, MI finished at the bottom of the points table with only four wins in 14 games.
