Liverpool Asst Manager Discusses His New Boss: Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has recently passed his verdict on the team’s new boss, Arne Slot, calling the new manager ‘unbelievable’.
Lijnders is part of the coaching team, leaving Liverpool led by manager Jurgen Klopp. After over eight years with the Reds, the German manager will be leaving the club.
Earlier this season, Klopp announced that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. In his almost nine seasons with the English giants, Jurgen won several trophies, including their first Premier League in three decades and a UEFA Champions League.
Klopp was Liverpool’s most successful manager in this century. So naturally, the team looked far and wide for his replacement and landed on Dutch manager Arne Slot.

Slot only started his managerial career in 2016, after Jurgen Klopp started his stint with Liverpool. The 45-year-old’s most recent job was as the manager of Dutch side Feyenoord.
With Feyenoord, Arne Slot won the Dutch KNVB Cup this season, the Eredivisie in 2022–23, and finished runner-up in the very first UEFA Europa League in 2021–22.

Pep Lijnders, who will be leaving the cup with Jurgen Klopp, recently opened up about his first impression of Liverpool’s new manager. Highlighting how Slot was keen on learning all about the club, Pep had only praise to sing about the Dutch manager.
“He’s made good steps, and now it’s the chance for him to make another big step.”

“I know Arne really well. He came to my house in Holland about nine years ago,” Lijnders reveals. He came to speak to me about football. He drove for a long time to see me, and he had a thousand questions. I tried to answer them all! Since then, we’ve stayed in close contact. He’s an unbelievable coach who knows exactly what he wants and has the experience to be at a club like Liverpool,” Lijnders told The Athletic.
The assistant manager then went on to claim that Liverpool needed a young and talented manager after years of being one of the best teams in the world under Jurgen Klopp. Lijnders said,
“You need a coach like Arne who is close to what we tried to do over the years in terms of having the ball in the opposition half, pressing, counter-pressing — he’s very strategical in that point of view. He’s made good steps, and now it’s the chance for him to make another big step.”
Liverpool will host a special farewell event for Jurgen Klopp on May 28, following which Arne will slot into the club as their manager.
