Lionel Messi Reacts To Barca El Classico Win: Argentina legend and current Inter Miami player Lionel Messi has taken to social media to react to FC Barcelona’s recent 4-0 thumping of Real Madrid in the El Classico fixture in La Liga this past weekend.
Messi, who is in contention to be the greatest football player of all time, is undoubtedly the greatest player in Barcelona’s history. Having signed with the club as a junior player at just 13 years old, he made it to the first team in 2004 at the age of 17 and remained a first-team mainstay for a whopping 17 years.
In his time with the Blaugrana, the Argentine won seven Ballon d’Ors, made 778 appearances across 17 seasons, and scored a mind-boggling 672 goals. In that time, he won countless trophies, including 10 La Ligas, four UEFA Champions League titles, seven Copa Del Reys, and many others.
But his departure from Barcelona was the highlight of the club’s financial troubles that followed the COVID pandemic. And as the club struggled massively with their finances, which resulted in them having to let go of Messi in 2021, they struggled off the field as well.
In the three seasons that Messi left Barca, the Catalan club has fallen significantly behind their arch-rivals Real Madrid. While they did win La Liga in 2022–23, they have fallen behind their rivals domestically and in Europe when it comes to on-field performances.
But Barca seems to have made a turn for the better ever since German manager Hansi Flick took charge before the start of the 2024-25 season. Currently, they are on top of the La Liga table with 10 wins and 30 points in 11 matches. They have also won two out of three of their UCL matches so far.
But their fine form this season recently came to a head during the most recent edition of the historic El Classico fixture against Real Madrid, being played in Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, October 26 (27 in India).
Playing at Real’s home ground, FC Barcelona thoroughly dominated the match, winning the game with a massive scoreline of 4-0. Star-striker Robert Lewandowski scored his team’s first two goals in the 54th and 56th minutes. 17-year-old star-boy Lamine Yamal then scored the third in the 77th minute before an in-form Rafinha sealed the deal with a fourth in the 84th minute.
This win is even more significant seeing how Los Blancos won their most recent UCL match against last season’s finalists Borussia Dortmund 5-2 earlier this week. Also seeing how Madrid is a team filled with stars like Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo, and 2024 Ballon d’Or front-runner Vinicius Jr.
Lionel Messi Reacts To Barca El Classico Win
Naturally, Barcelona legend Lionel Messi took to social media to react to this victory. He wrote this in Barcelona’s Instagram post comments following the win.
“Qué hermosa victoria!!” This translates from Spanish to, “What a great victory!!”
As stated above, Barca now has 30 points in 11 matches in La Liga this season. This gives them a six-point lead over Real Madrid in the league. They will now face Espanyol in their next league game on Sunday, November 3, before facing Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday, November 7.
