“Obstacles were funding. Finding sponsorship and support was key to me getting to where I am today,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton also spoke about the racism he faced in his racing journey, especially at the onset of his career, as he was explaining about getting into a ‘white-dominated’ sport.
“Not really fitting in a sport which was white-dominated and wasn’t an area that was diverse. We were the only Black family on the scene. So experienced a lot of racism, a lot of pushback. And so just trying to fit in and struggling with that acceptance was a big, big obstacle to overcome,” he continued.
Finally, the seven-time world champion mentioned the internal obstacles that he faced in the form of mental instability. He explained how he always wanted to win, something which was not possible in a sport. He talked about how he strengthened his mental health over the years.
The 39-year-old also talked about the mental struggles that he faced along the journey.
“Failure. In my sport you are constantly faced with challenges. You can’t always win, naturally. The natural highs you get are amazing and then you have these lows. The challenge of the mental side, mental stability, mental health has been a huge part of my whole journey,” he concluded.
Hamilton started his career with McLaren in 2007 and was the first person of color to sign for the company. Just a season after, in 2008, he won his first World Championship in 2008. He later joined Mercedes in 2013, and that rewrote his career as the Brit went on to grab 6 more F1 World Championships with the German giants from 2014-2020. Since then Hamilton failed to win any championships, and in 2024, the legend finished at 8h in the standings, which is his all-time worst season ever. Now, Hamilton is speclulated to be leaving Mercedes and joining Ferrari, which has no official confirmation yet. Will Lewis Hamilton-Ferrari collaboration will bring the rider his 8th World Championship?
