Lara Wants India to Keep Kohli-Rohit Opening Pair: West Indies legend Brian Lara wants India to stick with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to open the innings. The pair have been a flop for India in the T20 World Cup so far.
Before the tournament, pundits had asked India to choose players strategically to maintain the left-right combination that would trouble bowlers. Instead, they went with big-name players. Wide criticisms are happening based on the team selection, especially when they chose Shivam Dube over a skilled batter like Sanju Samson. The Samson snub has become so common on Team India now.
Virat and Rohit, both right-handers, had trouble against left-handed USA seemer Saurabh Netravalkar. While Netravalkar took Virat’s wicket in the very second bowl of the innings, Rohit succumbed to him in the third over.

Brian Lara also thinks that India should have gone with a left-right combination at the opening. But now that the team has been playing with Virat and Rohit, Lara wants India to stick with the same combination to not disrupt the team balance. Lara was speaking on Star Sports.
“India could’ve opted to open with a left-right batting combination, which would have been a strategic choice. Instead, they went with two established stars, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have performed well for both India and their respective IPL franchises. I believe they should maintain the same openers, as moving Kohli down the order could disrupt the team’s balance.”
“Despite the less-than-ideal batting conditions in the USA, I believe India should continue backing their current combination of players. While they may need to make adjustments at some point, I don’t think changes are warranted, especially when the team is winning.”
India have big trouble going into the Super 8. Their batters have been disappointing in the three games they played. Their wins have been brought about by the bowlers, who are in incredible form right now.
India’s next game is against Canada on June 15, which is expected to be a cakewalk for the Blues.
