Kraigg Brathwaite Replies to Rodney Hogg: Following his team’s historic and epic 8-run win in a thriller at the Gabba, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite gave a mouth-shutting reply to former Australia cricketer Rodney Hogg, who had apparently called Brathwaite’s team “pathetic” and “hopeless.”
On Sunday, as the stars twinkled in Brisbane, the West Indies recorded one of the biggest upsets in Test history by winning their first Test match on Australian soil since 1997, ending a wait of 27 years and 17 Tests. This was also Australia’s first-ever loss in a day-night Test match.
24-year-old pacer Shamar Joseph, who had made his Test debut in the previous Test match and had taken a five-for, took 7 wickets at the Gabba in Australia’s second innings with an injured toe. Australia were bowled out for 207 in the chase of the target of 216, with Steve Smith, now an opener, carrying his bat to remain not out on 91.
The sound of this miraculous win by the West Indies was heard all around the world. But Kraigg Brathwaite made sure it was heard by one man in particular: Rodney Hogg.

At the post-match presentation ceremony, Kraigg Brathwaite revealed that Rodney Hogg’s words about the West Indies team being “pathetic” and “hopeless” filled him and his team with inspiration. He also flexed his muscles to ask whether these were “big enough” for Hogg.
When asked about the inspiration for the West Indies team, Kraigg Brathwaite said, “I must say we had two words that inspired us in this test match. Mr Rodney Hogg said we were ‘pathetic’ and ‘hopeless’, so that source was our inspiration. We wanted to show the world we’re not pathetic,”.
“And I must ask him: Are these muscles big enough for him? (shows his biceps).”
