Virat Kohli Taunts SCG Crowd With Sandpaper Incident: In a hilarious and shocking event, Indian superstar cricketer Virat Kohli taunted the crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during day 3 of the BGT 2024-25 by imitating Cameron Bancroft’s sandpaper antics.
Day 3 of the fifth Test of the series got underway on Sunday in Sydney. Australia bowled India out for 147 runs, setting up a target of 162 runs to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and seal a place in the ICC WTC final.
During Australia’s second innings, Kohli had a go at the SCG crowd. He emptied his pockets and showed it to the crowd.
The fans got riled up, and the noise grew. Kohli didn’t stop there. He imitated how Bancroft had put the sandpaper inside his underwear and how he’d used it to shine the ball during the infamous 2018 Sandpaper Gate event in Cape Town.
Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper, observed this antics from Kohli and had a smile on his face.

In 2018 in Newlands, Bancroft was found guilty of tampering with the ball in a Test match in Cape Town, having been coaxed by Steve Smith and David Warner. Smith and Warner were banned for one year and Bancroft for nine months by Cricket Australia.
Meanwhile, the game is tilted towards Australia at lunch on day 3, but India are still fighting without Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah came on to bat and scored a duck. He didn’t take the field during the bowling innings. Prasidh Krishna had confirmed last evening that Bumrah had back spasms due to which he had left the field in the second session on day 2.
Defending 162, India started poorly as they gave plenty of extras down the leg side. Sam Konstas gave Australia another fiery start, cracking 22 runs off 17 balls. Prasidh brought India back in the game with the wickets of Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith.
At lunch, Australia are 71/3, needing 91 more runs to win the Test match, seal the series 3-1, reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years, and book a place in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final at Lord’s, where South Africa have already secured a berth.
