Virat Kohli Equals MS Dhoni Man of the Match Record: Virat Kohli Man of the Match awards in IPL: RCB opener Virat Kohli produced another match-winning innings in a run-chase and announced his comeback to action with a sizzling half-century against Punjab Kings.
After a timid 21 (20) against CSK in the IPL 2024 opening match, Kohli rocked up with ultra-aggressive intent in the chase of 177 against PBKS at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. His 77 (49), followed by a strong finish from Dinesh Karthik (28* of 10) and Mahipal Lomror (17* off 8), gave RCB their first win of the season. Doing it in front of their home fans made it sweeter.
Virat Kohli duly bagged the Man of the Match award for his brilliant knock.

This was Kohli’s 17th Player of the Match award in the IPL. He now equals MS Dhoni’s tally of Man of the Match awards. The pair are joint-fifth on his list, which is headlined by RCB greats AB de Villiers, who has 25 MoTM awards, and Chris Gayle, who has won the award 22 times in his IPL career.
At third is Mumbai Indians’ former captain Rohit Sharma with 19 awards, just ahead of David Warner, who has 18 Man of the Match awards.

It was a two-paced surface on which Virat Kohli batted like it was a flat one. While Kohli batted like a dream, barring the outside edge change that was dropped by Bairstow, clobbering 11 fours and 2 sixes, five of the other top six RCB batters were all dismissed for less than 20.
At 130/6, RCB looked in big trouble. But Karthik and Lomror smoked 48* runs in 18 balls to take RCB over the line with four balls to spare.
