KL Rahul To Not Be Retained By LSG: Lucknow Super Giants will reportedly retain West Indian wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran, Indian fast-bowler Mayank Yadav, and wrist-spinner Ravi Bishnoi ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
The rules for retention for the upcoming mega-auction allow teams to retain six players at most, five of whom can be capped. The first retained player is worth Rs. 18 crore, the second is worth 14 crore, while the third has to be paid a minimum of 11 crore. If a fourth-capped player is retained, he will be paid 18 crore, while a fifth one will be paid 14 crore. Any uncapped players can be retained for Rs 4 crore.
With the deadline for retentions being on October 31, all teams are finalizing their retained player lists, with LSG looking to make five retentions of their own.
Along with the players named above, the team is also reported to retain pacer Mohsin Khan and batter Ayush Badoni. With these five players, the franchise will see 51 crores of their budget being spent, which will be a lot less than other teams planning on making five retentions. However, retained players can be paid more than the minimum limit.

Another massive news from this list is that team captain KL Rahul, who took the franchise into the playoffs in 2022 and 2023 and is their highest run scorer, is not on the list. It is possible that the wicketkeeper-batter wants to explore his options in the auction.
Another absentee from this list is Marcus Stoinis. The Australian all-rounder has been a crucial piece of the puzzle for LSG. Not only is he the franchise’s second-highest run scorer, but also their eighth-highest wicket-taker.
But while Rahul has been the franchise’s top scorer, Nicholas Pooran is at No. 4 but has scored at a rapid strike rate of 175.97 in his two-year LSG stint.
Meanwhile, Mayank Yadav rocked IPL 2024 by bowling some of the fastest deliveries in league history. By bowling 150 km/h regularly, he put the whole league on notice. However, he played only four matches that season, only two of which he wasn’t injured in. But he also picked up two Player of the Match awards and recently made his national team debut against Bangladesh.
Ravi Bishnoiu was one of the players that the Lucknow Super Giants drafted when they came into existence in 2022. Since then, he has been massively successful with the franchise, being their highest wicket-taker.
Mohsin Khan has been consistently good for LSG, and so has Ayush Badoni as a middle-order batter. Their reported retention list of five players is filled with names that have played an instrumental role in the success of this short-lived franchise.
