India’s new head coach for the men’s team, Gautam Gambhir, is about to start his journey with the team in the upcoming Sri Lankan series. The series will kick off on July 27 this month and will have 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
Though Gambhir’s first meeting with Team India’s selection committee is yet to be held at the end of the week, the speculation around the captaincy has already risen to the internet.
IND vs SL: KL Rahul to Lead India in Sri Lanka Series
According to a BCCI source, the team will have different captains for different formats of the game, with the ODI side’s responsibility most likely falling into the hands of KL Rahul. For T20Is, the World Cup final hero Hardik Pandya might get the captain’s chair.
Star players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be given their much-deserved rest. The T20Is will be played first from July 27–30. The ODIs will resume on August 2.
According to a BCCI source, though Suryakumar Yadav has a chance to lead the T20I side, it will be most likely Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul (for ODI) who will get the slots.
“It is expected that in the absence of Rohit, Hardik and KL are the options to be given the responsibility of captain. Both have captained the team earlier.”
“If Hardik is not available for the T20Is, you might see Suryakumar Yadav as captain in T20Is and Rahul in ODIs. But for now, it seems that Hardik and KL will lead the team.”
