KL Rahul Talks About Battling Anxiety: KL Rahul is an outstanding batter and a good wicketkeeper. He is a constant for India in ODI and Test teams. He is 32 years old now. The Karnataka-based player recently opened up about the anxiety he met when he turned 30.
The career of a sportsperson is limited. You can only grind till your body gives up. And it starts giving up when you are in your mid-thirties. You can stretch your career to 40 if you have extraordinary fitness.
So, for a sportsperson, it’s very important to make the most out of every opportunity he or she gets. And when they turn 30, it’s when the realization hits. It’s when you realize that you don’t have much time left in the sport at the top level. This could bring anxiety to a player. And KL Rahul was no different.

KL Rahul Talks About Battling Anxiety
In his recent interview with Nikhil Kamath, KL opened up about the anxiety he suffered when he turned 30.
“The shelf life is small for the athlete, and you need to make the most of the opportunities you get. I was hit by anxiety when I was 30. I could see the end of my career. The situation was fine till I was 29.”
“I got anxious when I celebrated my 30th birthday. I thought I would play for another 10 years, and that gave me anxiety, and that was the first time I thought about the end of my career. I have played cricket all my life without imagining about such a situation.”
Even though you can stretch your cricket till you turn 40, it’s very difficult in international cricket. With limited slots available and young, hungry cricketers rising up in the sport, you will eventually have to make way for them. KL points at MS Dhoni, who is still active at his 43rd. But he also realises that it only is possible in domestic leagues.
“Insecurity is not there, but there is a feeling that all this will end, and for me, it is going to end quickly. You can play till 40 if you are fit. MS Dhoni is still active despite being 43. You can do it in the IPL and other leagues, but not in international cricket.”
