KL Rahul Sends Dig At LSG: Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has opened up about his decision to leave Lucknow Super Giants ahead of IPL 2025. The Bengaluru-based player moved on following a series of rows between him and the franchise owner, Sanjiv Goenka
Sanjiv Goeanka was seen lashing out at KL Rahul after LSG’s battering loss against SRH last year, a scene that brought a lot of discussions over the former’s toxic nature in managing the team. After that, it was almost certain that India’s ODI wicket-keeper batter would leave the franchise after IPL 2024.
‘I Wanted Play Where I Could Find Freedom’: KL Rahul Sends Dig At LSG
In an interview published by Star Sports, KL Rahul poked fun at Lucknow while opening up about the situations that led him to leave Lucknow. He said that the decision had already been made before the IPL 2025 auction.
“No. I mean, I think the decision was made already, and I don’t know what the comments are, but they must have come after the announcements, or the intentions were made.
KL said that he wanted to have a fresh start and play somewhere where he gets some freedom and has a lighter environment in the change room.
“And, yeah, I just felt like it was, you know, ma’am, I wanted to start fresh. I wanted to, you know, explore my options, and I wanted to go and play where, you know, I could find some freedom and then, you know, the team at my atmosphere could be, you know, would be some…something lighter, much more balanced. And then the pressure’s already there in the IPL.”
KL captained LSG and was incredible for the franchise as a player. He bagged 1410 runs from 38 matches, which includes 10 fifties and 2 hundreds. But the perception of KL being slow for T20 was high in the air. The player replied to this prejudice with an incredible quickfire innings against RCB when he scored 93 off 53 balls.
Rahul continued on the importance of the supportive dressing room atmosphere.
“It’s so high, but, you know, you see teams like Gujarat and CSK and…and all of these teams. And you’ll see even when they win or lose, they seem really, you know, balanced and the dressing room is really calm and..and, you know, that’s something that’s very important for me as a player.

If that happens, I mean, I feel like it gives all the players the best chance to perform and, you know, yeah, we try to do that. We try to create that in the change room, and I think it was a brilliant atmosphere in the change room. But somehow, I mean, sometimes we just need to move away and find something, something good for yourself.”
KL Rahul will face his former franchise today when he travels to the Ekana Cricket Stadium once more, and this time, he will be playing against the Lucknow crowd.
