Rahul joined RCB in 2013 when he was bought by the franchise in the IPL auction. As he turned 32, the current LSG captain opened up about his days at RCB and meeting Virat Kohli.
“Virat Kohli and other RCB support staff were present at the ITC Gardenia when Virat jokingly asked me, “Would you want to sign this contract and play for RCB?” I excitedly responded, “That would be a dream come true!” Virat smiled and said, “I’m just kidding, you don’t have a choice. Go ahead and sign the contract.” I eagerly signed, after which Virat remarked, “You’re in for an amazing ride over the next few months,
KL Rahul said.
Rahul joined RCB in 2013. But he couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity, as the wicketkeeper-batter only scored 20 runs in the season. RCB later released him, and it was SRH who picked KL in the 2014 IPL. He had some success that year, scoring 166 runs. This performance granted him the Test debut for India.
“The things I learned in those two months at RCB were incredible. It would have taken me 7-8 seasons playing just the Ranji Trophy to gain that level of knowledge and experience as a player. But through the IPL, everything was fast-forwarded, and I gained so much in just two months,”
he added.
Rahul got back to RCB in 2016 and had a successful season. But the league’s trade rule again landed him with another franchise, and this time it was the Punjab Kings. From there, in 2022, the player went to LSG and became their captain.
“Although I started my IPL career with Bengaluru and hoped to finish there, the league’s player trade rule allowed me the rewarding experience of playing for multiple teams alongside diverse talent,”
he concluded.
