KKR vs SRH Match Highlights And Report-IPL: KKR’s superstar all-rounder and their biggest match-winner, Andre Russell, brought his best with both bat and ball on Saturday night to light up the Eden Gardens as Shreyas Iyer’s side started the IPL 2024 with a win. However, the hosts were given a huge scare by Klaasen, who threatened a memorable come-from-behind run-chase.
Batting at number 8, Russell clobbered 3 fours and 7 sixes in his thrilling knock of 64* runs in 25 balls. Then, with the ball, the lanky Jamaican took two wickets: that of the well-set SRH opener Abhishek Sharma and the dangerous-looking Abdul Samad. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of IPL 2019 has started this season on a resounding note.

Pat Cummins, the new SRH captain, won the toss and elected to bowl first. Barring a hat-trick of sixes from Phil Salt to Marco Jansen, SRH got all over the KKR top and middle-order and had the hosts in a pickle at 51/4.
The situation got worse for KKR when they lost Ramandeep Singh, who had counter-attacked with a 17-ball 35, and Salt, who scored 54 (40). At a score of 119/6, KKR depended on their two best and most in-form batters, Rinku Singh and Russell. The pair delivered.
In their partnership of 81 (33), Russell scored 62 (23) while Rinku scored 15 (10). Their partnership allowed KKR’s total to go beyond 200, which was still only par, as said by the curator earlier in the evening.

In the chase of 209, SRH started off like a bullet train with an opening partnership of 60 (33) between Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma. KKR then got back into the game with the wickets of the two openers, followed by Markram and Tripathi.
Just when KKR seemed to have been having control over the game, the Heinrich Klaasen storm hit the hosts in spectacular fashion and simply blew them away. With 60 runs needed off 18 balls, Klaasen muscled three sixes to Chakaravarthy and three sixes to Mitchell Starc, who also got hit for a six by Abdul Samad. 47 runs came off the 18th and 19th overs.
With 13 needed off six balls, Klaasen pulled Harshit Rana for a six on the first ball. A single on the second ball, and Samad holed out on the third. Jansen got a single on the fourth ball before Rana dismissed Klaasen with a top-edge. With five runs needed on the last ball, Rana sneaked in a dot ball by slowing down his pace as Cummins missed his slog.
KKR escaped a potential jailbreak from Klaasen, who scored 63 (29) with 8 sixes and zero boundary.
Score summary: Kolkata Knight Riders 208/7 in 20 overs (Andre Russell 64, T Natarajan 3/32); Sunrisers Hyderabad 204/7 in 20 overs (Heinrich Klaasen 63, Harshit Rana 3/33). KKR defeated SRH by 4 runs.
