RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first. Phil Salt started off in a stylish fashion with a six on the second ball of the match, followed by a four. Salt then tore into Ferguson in a 28-run over. The right-hander was dismissed by Siraj, after smoking 48 runs in 14 balls.
Yash Dayal struck twice in the last over of the powerplay, dismissing Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. KKR still ended the powerplay at 75/3. The hosts were now in the middle of a little slip, further losing Venkatesh Iyer (16 off 8) and Rinku Singh (24 off 16).
Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell reined in for a while. Iyer reached a half-century but couldn’t kick on after that. Not Russell, but KKR got their finishing kick from Ramandeep Singh, who blasted 2 fours and 2 sixes in his 9-ball innings, taking KKR to 222.

In the chase, Virat Kohli started off like a bullet train with two sixes and a four in the first six balls he faced, but he got out to a full-toss delivery from Harshit Rana, a leading edge giving the bowled a return catch, though Kohli protested for a waist-high no-ball, despite the third umpire giving him out. Faf was dismissed for a run-a-ball 7 by Chakravarthy.
RCB’s innings was lifted by a terrific century stand between Will Jacks, who finally showcased his skills and talent in the IPL, and Rajat Patidar. The pair forged a stunning partnership of 102 (48), both raising their respective half-centuries with high strike rates before both fell to Russell.
Narine snared Cameron Green and Mahipal Lomro for single-digit scores. Suyash Prabhudessai (24 off 18) and Dinesh Karthik (25 off 18) made contributions, but it all seemed too much for RCB when they both were gone and RCB needed 21 runs off the last six balls to be bowled by Starc.
But tailender Karn Sharma stunned everyone by hitting three sixes in four balls to bring the equation down to only 3 runs needed in two balls. And then the final twist: Starc had Karn caught and bowled! On the last ball, Ferguson, the number 11, hit the ball straight to deep point, and he could only take one run and got out while coming back for the second run.
Score summary: Kolkata Knight Riders 222/6 in 20 overs (Shreyas Iyer 50, Cameron Green 2/35); Royal Challengers Bengaluru 221/10 in 20 overs (Will Jacks 55, Andre Russell 3/25). KKR defeated RCB by 1 run.
