Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. Because of the rain, 105 minutes were lost, and the match was curtailed to 16 overs per side. Mumbai started off superbly with the ball as Nuwan Thusara had Phil Salt caught at fine leg and Jasprit Bumrah yorked Sunil Narine.
While Venkatesh Iyer hit Bumrah for a six and two fours, Anshul Kamboj bowled Iyer for a single-digit score.
Rana and Venkatesh took Hardik Pandya for 16 runs in his first over before the latter was dismissed by Piyush Chawla through a googly. Venkatesh scored 42 (21). Russell smoked two fours and two sixes in his knock of 24 (14). Contributions from Rana (33 off 23) and Rinku Singh (20 off 12) were vital before Ramandeep Singh walloped a six and a four to take KKR to 157 in 16 overs.

MI had a dominating first five overs, reaching 59/0, but after this, KKR spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine did what they do best: apply the choke in the middle overs. Narine got Kishan for 40 (22), and Chakravarthy ended Rohit’s struggle for 19 (24).
Even Suryakumar Yadav struggled on this surface against KKR’s bowlers. He was out for 11 (14) to Andre Russell in the 11th over. In the next over, Chakaravarthy bagged the MI captain, Hardik Pandya, for 2 runs. Russell returned to nip out Tim David for a duck.
Tilak Varma scored 32 (17), and Naman Dhir thumped 17 (6). But they could only drag the game till the last over, in which MI needed 22 runs, but Harshit Rana took out both Varma and Dhir to seal a playoff spot for KKR.
