Key Player Battles in SRH vs RR Qualifier 2: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will meet Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the second knockout game of the playoffs, Qualifier 2, on Friday evening at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, which is also known as Chepauk, in Chennai.
Pat Cummins’ SRH conceded a heavy defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 1 but still has a chance to reach the final. Sanju Samson’s RR handed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) a 4-wicket loss in the Eliminator, and now they are aiming to reach the IPL final for the second time in three seasons.
There are a few key battles to watch out for in this high-voltage SRH vs RR clash.
3 Key Player Battles in SRH vs RR Qualifier 2:
Travis Head vs Trent Boult
Is there a chink in Travis Head’s armor that teams have now started to exploit? Head has been bowled for a duck in his last two innings; both times it was a left-arm pacer (Arshdeep Singh and Mitchell Starc) who rattled Head’s stumps in the first over of the match.
He will now be up against Trent Boult, arguably the best new ball pacer in the world. Boult can give RR a huge advantage early on if he gets Travis Head in his first couple of overs.
Riyan Parag vs Pat Cummins
Parag is in tremendous form in the IPL 2024, having scored 567 runs at an average of 56 and a strike rate of 151 with four half-centuries. He came clutch for RR in the Eliminator against RCB by scoring 36 crucial runs, and he has been a star at the number 4 position this season.
His battle in the middle overs will be against SRH captain Pat Cummins. In their brief encounters in the IPL so far, Cummins has had the upper hand, having dismissed Parag twice in 13 balls, but make no mistake, this version of Parag is different from anything we have seen before.
Abhishek Sharma vs Avesh Khan
It’s not just Travis Head who’s been in marauding form this season. Abhishek Sharma has been destructive too: the young left-hander has smashed 470 runs at a strike rate of 207.
Tasked with stopping him would be fast bowler Avesh Khan, who enjoys an advantageous match-up against Sharma. Avesh has dismissed Abhishek twice in only seven balls in the IPL, the batter managing to score only two runs.
