Kevin Pietersen replies to Gautam Gambhir: Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has given a hilarious and heart-winning reply to Gautam Gambhir’s criticism of his and AB de Villiers’ captaincy. Pietersen showed great heart in agreeing with Gambhir’s opinion that he was a bad captain and didn’t achieve as much as England’s skipper.
Speaking with Sportskeeda, Gautam Gambhir was giving his reaction to the criticism that Hardik Pandya is getting as Mumbai Indians are having a terrible IPL 2024 season. Under Pandya, who left Gujarat Titans after two highly successful seasons, Mumbai have won only 4 out of 13 matches and were the first team to be eliminated from the playoff race.
Gambhir, though, defended Pandya by citing examples of the lack of ICC trophies of South Africa and England under the captaincy of AB de Villiers and Kevin Pietersen.
The former KKR captain said,
“How did they do when they took on the role of a captain themselves? I do not believe that either AB de Villiers or Kevin Pietersen have ever displayed leadership qualities in their careers. Nothing at all. Their record is worse than that of any other leader, if you check it.”

This interview and opinion of Gambhir went viral on Twitter and reached Pietersen. Rather than hit back Gambhir with harsh words, the 43-year-old Englishman took the criticism to his chin and accepted the feedback that he was a “terrible captain.”
Pietersen replied,
“He’s not wrong. I was a terrible captain!!!”
He got huge praise from the fans for this comment.

Apart from leading England, Pietersen also led two of his IPL franchises, RCB and Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals), to no success.RCB won only two out of six games under Pietersen, and Delhi finished at the bottom of the points table under the leadership of the lanky England batter.
Meanwhile, Gambhir is currently with KKR as a mentor. KKR became the first team to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2024.
