Kavem Hodge Leaves A Straight Ball From Chris Woakes: West Indies batter Kavem Hodge suffered a huge brainfade moment during the ongoing third Test match against England.
The 3rd England vs West Indies Test got underway on Friday at Edgbaston in Birmingham. West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first.
Kavem Hodge was the fifth West Indies batter to fall, though he has mostly himself to blame as he shouldered arms to a straight-ish delivery from pacer Chris Woakes.
Woakes had smartly setup Hodge in his previous overs with a number of outswingers. On the first ball of the 30th over of West Indies’ innings, Woakes sent in a straight one that pitched just outside the off-stump and without any deviation kept coming in with Woakes’ angle.
Hodge, who had been setup with a glut of outswingers earlier, expected this one to leave him as well or in part miss the sticks comfortably. However, the batter was left confounded as the ball crashed into the top of the off-stump.
Hodge stood there for a while to assess his huge error that resulted in his dismissal, one that he could have avoided had he not decided to leave it. He went back to the dressing room with only 13 runs to his total.

After electing to bat first, West Indies couldn’t last a day in their first innings and were bowled out for 282 runs in 75.1 overs. Fast bowler Gus Atkinson, who is having a terrific series with the ball, was the pick of the English bowlers with four scalps. Following him were Woakes with a three-wicket haul and Mark Wood with two wickets in his account. Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir took one wicket.
For West Indies, captain and opener Kraigg Brathwaite top-scored with 61 runs, followed by veteran Jason Holder, who scored 59 runs and wicket-keeper batter Joshua Da Silva scored 49 runs.
England have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
