Kane Williamson Injured Again: Ruled Out of T20Is vs Pakistan
He straightaway flew to his home in Tauranga and had scans, which revealed a “minor” hamstring strain. That ruled him out of the 3rd T20I on Wednesday, and keeping in mind the home Test series against South Africa next month, which carries crucial World Test Championship points, the New Zealand management decided to pull Williamson out of the rest of the 5-T20I series against Pakistan, which the Kiwis lead 2-0 currently.
As Kane Williamson Injured Again, Will Young will be added to New Zealand’s squad as a replacement for Williamson, and Tim Seifert is likely to slot in Williamson’s spot in the 3rd T20I in Dunedin.
Kane Williamson was out of action for six months last year due to a knee injury
Kane Williamson Injured Again: New Zealand’s coach, Gary Stead, confirmed that Kane Williamson’s latest hamstring injury is on the same leg as his knee injury last year, which kept him out of action for six months.
Gary Stead said:
“A timeline for Williamson’s rehabilitation and return to cricket is still being established with a goal of being ready for selection in the Test series against South Africa starting next month.”
“I mean with the Test matches so close as well and probably in the big scheme of things in the short term for us has higher priority then I think it’s likely we’ll try and make sure that he’s right for that.”
Williamson had scored 57 runs in 42 balls in the first T20I, which New Zealand won by 46 runs in Auckland. In the second T20I, he was batting on 26 off 15 balls before leaving the field due to feeling tightness in his right hamstring.
After the South Africa Test series next month, New Zealand will be hosting Australia for 3 T20Is and 2 Test matches until mid-March, before the players fly out for IPL 2024 in India and the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.
