Jose Mourinho Linked With Portugal Manager Job: Legendary Portuguese football manager Jose Mourinho is being linked with the managing job for the Portugal national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will see him take charge of a national team for the first time in his illustrious career.
Jose is currently managing the Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce, which is currently second in the league table behind Galatasaray. Before that, he had a successful stint with Italian side Roma, winning the Conference League.
The 62-year-old has managed some of the biggest clubs in the world and has had tremendous success in multiple European leagues. In one of his first major jobs at Porto, he won the UEFA Champions League with the Portuguese side. He won multiple Premier League titles with Chelsea. He also won three trophies in two full seasons with Manchester United.

However, his most iconic stints came with Inter Milan and Real Madrid. With the Italian side, he won the Serie A twice, the Coppa Italia, and the UCL, completing the treble in the 2009-10 season.
On the other hand, with the Spanish giants, his Galácticos did trail behind an all-time great Barcelona side in Spain, but he did win La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de España in his nearly three years in Madrid.
A coach known for winning trophies wherever he goes (except Tottenham Hotspur) might just take up a job with the Portugal national football team, fitting for the man who was awarded the Portuguese Coach of the Century at the country’s FA’s 100th anniversary in 2015.

X (formerly Twitter) page Transfer News Live, via CNN Portugal, has reported that Jose Mourinho is being lined up for the Portuguese national team manager job, taking over from the current team boss, Roberto Martinez.
If Mourinho took up the job, he would reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he managed at the height of his powers from 2010 to 2013 at Real Madrid. While the two did have some tension from their time working together, that won’t likely be a problem.
As for the Portugal national football team, they have advanced to the semi-final of the UEFA Nations League after topping their group. They will face Germany for a place in the final, with Spain and France facing off in the second semi-final. They also qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be played in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, by winning their Nations League group.
