Jofra Archer Returns From Injury: In what would be a major boost for England’s chances of defending their T20 world crown, fast bowler Jofra Archer is likely to feature in the T20 World Cup 2024 in June in the West Indies and USA.
The 29-year-old speedster, who is recovering from a long-term elbow injury, could make his much-awaited international comeback against Pakistan in a 4-T20I series at home starting May 22.
Rob Key, the managing director of England men’s cricket, has expressed optimism regarding the return of Archer.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Rob Key said, “Jofra has been out with Sussex in India for pre-season and bowled quickly out there, he bowled really well. He has now gone back to the Caribbean where he’s going to play a bit of club cricket, all about getting himself ready for that T20 World Cup. He’ll hopefully play the Pakistan series, but it’s always fingers-crossed at the moment with Jofra.”
One of the most talented and incredible fast bowlers to have ever played for England, Archer, born in Barbados, made an instant impact in the 2019 World Cup by being England’s top wicket-taker and bowling the Super Over in the final against New Zealand, which England won on boundary count. He was sensational in his debut Test series—the Ashes 2019 at home—and looked to attain more glory as a fast bowler in his career.
However, since March 2021, he’s been out of action most times because of multiple injuries. While his elbow injury has been the biggest cause of concern, Archer has also undergone treatments for finger injuries and back injuries.
During his period, he’s missed a lot of international cricket and the IPL. He played five games last year in the IPL before flying back home as his elbow injury resurfaced. Key pulled Archer out of IPL 2024 to provide him with more time to recover in order to be fit for the T20 World Cup. Despite Jofra Archer missing a significant portion of cricket in the last three years, the ECB handed him a two-year contract.
“What we’re going to do is take it slower rather than trying to go too quickly so that we get him back for not just a short period but we get him for a long period,” Key stated.
