Jasprit Bumrah vs Sam Konstas fight in 5th test: It was a rare show of flourishing emotions from India speedster Jasprit Bumrah when he dismissed Usman Khawaja on the last ball of day 1 of the 5th Test against Australia, which started on Friday in Sydney. But Bumrah’s emotions were directed at the batsman he’d dismissed. Instead, his rage was targeted at the non-striker Sam Konstas.
Also, it was one of the rare instances where the bowler celebrated his wicket while looking at the non-striker, clearly signaling brewing rivalry between Bumrah and Konstas that began in Melbourne, where the young Aussie opener cracked a fifty on debut and pumped Bumrah through scoops and reverse scoops, but the fast bowler knocked him over in the second innings.
At Sydney, Jasprit Bumrah was leading India as Rohit Sharma had “chosen to rest” from the last Test of the series amid his poor form—31 runs in five innings on this tour.
Bumrah won the toss and opted to bat first on a spicy pitch with plenty of grass on it. The surface also had seam movement throughout the day and offered extra bounce. India got bowled out for 185 runs. Rishabh Pant top-scored with 40, and Scott Boland took 4/31. Bumrah contributed with the bat, scoring 22 off 17 balls with three fours and a six.
He then continued on his surreal form with the ball in this series and took only two overs to nip out Khawaja. But it came with a lot of drama surrounding it.
Ahead of the penultimate ball of the day, Khawaja stopped Bumrah in his run-up, which irritated the pacer. Konstas then, from the non-striker’s end, chirped words toward Bumrah, who charged towards him for a fiery altercation that needed the umpire to sort out and separate the two hot-headed players.
A ball later, Bumrah dismissed Khawaja, having him edge to KL Rahul at second slip. That fired up the Indians. Bumrah quickly turned around to Konstas and started to walk towards him. He’d taken only a couple of steps before he realized he shouldn’t and turned and was soon mobbed by his teammates.
Bumrah moved away from his teammates and roared at Konstas in his flaming celebration. Virat Kohli, who had shoulder barged Konstas at the MCG, also screamed loudly in Konstas’ face, and so did Prasidh Krishna.

At the end of the day’s play, Rishabh Pant spoke on this battle between Konstas and Bumrah.
“I feel they had a little chit-chat. They wanted to waste some time. I feel that’s the reason he had a conversation with Jassi [Bumrah]. He [Konstas] said something; I didn’t hear it, but I feel that’s the only thing he wanted to do: to just waste some time so we don’t bowl one more over,” Pant said.
