Jason Gillespie On Pakistan Trying To Do Better: Pakistan Test Cricket Team head coach Jason Gillespie said a lot without actually saying anything about the team and its players following their dismal record in the format over the last year, saying things like “the players care” and “are desperate to do well.”
Pakistan has probably been the worst Test-playing team in the current World Test Championship cycle. They started off by winning two matches against Sri Lanka in July 2023; the red-ball team soon fell off a cliff, losing 3-0 to Australia at the turn of the year.
The humiliation was compounded during the recent two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Having never lost a Test match to the Bangla Tigers, the Men in Green not only lost the first game of the series, losing to them for the first time that too at home. But they were also whitewashed in the series after losing the second game as well.

In the WTC table, Pakistan is currently eighth, just ahead of the West Indies. The Asian giants have won two and lost five out of seven games in the 2023-25 cycle.
There were changes made following the Australia series loss earlier this year. While Shan Masood maintained his captaincy in the format, the head coaches for Tests and limited overs teams changed. Former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie was appointed the red-ball coach.
Under Gillespie, Pakistan has lost two Test matches to Bangladesh and will now face a formidable England side in three games next month.

In a recent press event that came after a strategic connection camp organised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the former World Cup winner with Australia used some generic talking points while trying to send a message that the team as a whole is looking to improve, saying,
“Because we’re new to the job, our job is to listen and learn and look to implement ways where we can be more effective as players, as a team, and as coaches. What was really clear today was the pride the Pakistan players have in playing for Pakistan and how they want to inspire the country. That was really exciting to hear. The players care and are desperate to do well. We’re on this journey together, and we’ll do everything we can to help.”
As stated before, the Pakistan Cricket Team will face England in a three-match Test series later this year. It is all but impossible for them to make it to the final of the WTC from this point.
