Jadeja Becomes 1st To Reach IPL Milestone: Match 8 of IPL 2025 between the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru did not go well for CSK, who lost the match by 50 runs. However, during the game, Super Kings’ Ravindra Jadeja conquered a milestone reached by no other player in the IPL. He became the first player to score 3000 runs and take 100 wickets in the league.
Last night’s CSK vs RCB match was played at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. The home team won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Royal Challengers got off to a decent start, especially on what usually is a bowling-friendly track at the Chepauk. Phil Salt got out at the end of the fifth over with the team being at 45.
While the likes of Devdutt Padikkal and then-captain Rajat Patidar kept the pace up, Virat Kohli anchored the innings, playing a near run a ball, 31. Meanwhile, the skipper was the highest run scorer for his team with 51 off 32. A late flourish by Tim David took Bengaluru to 196 in 20 overs.
In response, Chennai lost three wickets in the powerplay, the fourth wicket in the ninth over at the score of 52, and were down at 80/6 in the 13th over. There were some late fireworks by MS Dhoni, but those were not enough to avoid a massive 50-run loss for the CSK.
Jadeja Becomes 1st To Reach IPL Milestone
However, a silver lining emerged during this mega-loss. Ravindra Jadeja was the third-highest run scorer for the Super Kings, behind Rachin Ravindra’s 41 and Dhoni’s 30. Jaddu ended up scoring 25 off 19 before falling victim to Josh Hazelwood.
These 25 runs took Jadeja to 3001 runs in his IPL career. The World Cup and IPL-winning all-rounder is one of the most prolific players in the history of the Indian Premier League. Having played 242 matches in 18 seasons in this league, he has now broken the 3000-run barrier. He did so at an average of 27.28 and a strike rate of 129.52.
While he became only the 27th player to score at least 3000 runs in the IPL, he is also the only player in that 27-man list to have taken over 100 wickets in the IPL as well, making him arguably the greatest all-rounder in league history, definitely if the stats are referred to.
In the same 242 matches, the Gujarati all-rounder has taken 160 wickets at an average of 30.76 and an economy of 7.64 across 18 seasons. He is the 10th highest wicket-taker in league history. The only player who can imagine joining the 3000/100 club in the IPL is Andre Russell, who already has 115 wickets in the league but only has 2488 runs.
As for the Chennai Super Kings, they have now won one and lost one match in IPL 2025. They will now take the Rajasthan Royals in the evening match on Sunday, March 30, at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.
