Iyer and Ishan not in the BCCI Central Contract: Why?
BCCI had asked the players not to ditch domestic cricket when they were not representing the national team. But both Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan initially decided to opt out of domestic cricket, and this didn’t go well with BCCI.
Explaining the situation, BCCI stated in a media release:
“Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations. The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team.”
