Shreyas Iyer And Devdutt Padikkal Duleep trophy 50s: Devdutt Padikkal and team captain Shreyas Iyer have scored crucial 50s for India C in the third inning against India D in the 2024 Duleep Trophy.
This year’s Duleep trophy, consisting of four teams (India A, B, C, and D), is quite special. With most national team players playing in the tournament, performances here will determine India’s red-ball team for the coming series against Bangladesh.
India C and D kicked off the competition by taking on each other. It was the C-team that won the toss and decided to bowl first in the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.

India D, captained by Shreyas Iyer, batted first and immediately saw their top-order collapse. From 23/3 to 48/6 and 76/7. Iyer scored just nine runs, and Paddikal was dismissed for a duck. At this point, wicketkeeper Srikar Bharat was the team’s top scorer for 13. But as the team looked like they would be dismissed before reaching 100, Axar Patel came to the rescue. The Gujarati all-rounder batted for a long time with the lower order, scoring 86 off 118 before getting dismissed by Hritik Shokeen, and the team was finally all-out for 164.
India C’s batting attempt wasn’t much better. Star openers Sai Sudharsan and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad were dismissed for single-digit scores. At 43/3, they too were threatened by a collapse. But here, Baba Indrajith and wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel built a decent partnership. While Indrajith scored 72, Porel scored 34. Although the team collapsed around the two, India C managed to reach 168 runs, taking a four-run lead.

With a decent score needed in the third inning, the D-team lost their openers for cheap. But from this point, captain Shreyas and Devdutt Padikkal came onto the pitch and stood firm, scoring crucial runs for their team and spending some time on the field. While Shreyas Iyer scored a quickfire 50, scoring 54 runs in 44 deliveries, Padikkal took his time and scored 56 in 70. When the two were dismissed, the team’s score was 166/4.
At the time of writing, India D is at 203/8, with Ricky Bhui scoring 37 runs and taking the team past 200 runs. They are in a 199-run lead towards the end of Day 2. Axar Patel is still on strike. And if he can add a few more runs along with the lower order, India C will be in a lot of trouble in the fourth inning.
