Kishan was dropped from the Indian National Cricket Team selection earlier this year due to refusing to participate in domestic tournaments during time away from the national side. This was the reason behind him not being given a central contract by the BCCI.
Now vying for a return to team India, the 26-year-old has decided to play domestic cricket, He is currently captaining Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu tournament, which is India’s oldest ongoing first-class competition.
Originally not a part of the squad, Ishan informed the Jharkhand State Cricket Board (JSCA) of his desire to represent the state in domestic tournaments, following which he was named the captain of the side.
Ishan Kishan played in Jharkhand’s opening match of the tournament against Madhya Pradesh. As MP won the toss and decided to bat, Kishan impressed behind the stumps on Day 1. Now on Day 2, he got the opportunity to bat and absolutely smashed it.
The Mumbai Indians batter scored an 86-ball century, which is the fastest in the over a century-long history of this competition. Not only that, but he reached the milestone by hitting two sixes in a row.

This is the first domestic first-class match he has played since December 2022 and the first time he has taken to the field since IPL 2024, where he failed to shine for a dismal MI side.

Kishan would go on to score 114 runs in 107 deliveries in his first match with the red ball since a Test against the West Indies in July 2023. At stumps on Day 2, Jharkhand was 277-7 After Madhya Pradesh was bowled out for 225.
Ishan Kishan will next feature in the star-studded Duleep trophy, as several players from the national team will be playing in that tournament in September. He has also reportedly informed the JSCA that he wants to play in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season.
