Ishan Kishan’s career stands at a fork in the road at the moment. He can either return to the national team and become a regular part of the squad as an attacking batter and back-up wicketkeeper, or remain what he currently is, a highly touted domestic talent just out of the periphery of the Indian Cricket Team.
While not the most consistent, Kishan has impressed a lot in his short international cricket stint. However, he is known more for his exploits in domestic cricket and the IPL, the latter of which he has won on multiple occasions.

Ishan Kishan Career Overview
Ishan Pranav Kumar Pandey Kishan was born on July 18, 1998, in Patna, Bihar. Due to registration issues early in his junior career, he started playing domestic cricket for the neighbouring state of Jharkhand. He captained the India U-19 World Cup 2016 Team, taking the side to the final. That year, he was also picked by the Gujarat Lions in the IPL. He was retained the next season, where he impressed with 277 runs in 11 games.
In November 2016, Kishan made his Ranji Trophy debut for Jharkhand. In 2018, he was picked by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and played a full season for the first time ever. After an underwhelming 2019, in which MI won the IPL, Ishan Kishan had his breakout season in the league in 2020, scoring 519 runs in 14 matches and being his side’s highest scorer as they won their second title in a row.
In March 2021, he made his Indian Cricket Team debut in a T20I against England and made a half-century. In his ODI debut against Sri Lanka a few months later, he scored another 50. He was then picked for the 2021 T20 World Cup squad.
In December 2022, Ishan scored his first career century against Bangladesh. He then became the first player to convert his ton into a double-hundred, becoming the fourth Indian and seventh player ever to reach the milestone in the format. He also became the youngest ODI double-centurion at the age of 24 years and 145 days.
Ishan Kishan has been out of the Indian Cricket Team since 2023 and is working on his game in the Indian domestic system to make a comeback. He also had a recent and small stint in the County Championship, where he played for Nottinghamshire and impressed. As for the IPL, he currently plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring a century on his team debut in 2025.
