Irfan Pathan Suggests Change In MI Captaincy: Former Indian all-rounder and current commentator Irfan Pathan reckons that Hardik Pandya should have given Jasprit Bumrah another over in the powerplay in Mumbai Indians’ most recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
MI took on SRH in their second match of IPL 2024. Bowling first, the Indians were smashed all over the park, with the Sunrisers putting up the largest score in league history, notching up 277/3 at the end of 20 overs.
Every MI bowler went for 10 runs per over, all except Jasprit Bumrah, who gave away 36 runs in four overs, going for around 7 rpo for his first three.

Since brimming the Mumbai Indians captain this season, Hardik Pandya has been opening the bowling for the side. In the match against SRH, he only gave one over in the powerplay to Bumrah, who is somewhat of a powerplay specialist.
Not giving him another over early resulted in Travis Head going absolutely ham in the first six overs, ending his innings on 62 runs in just 24 balls.
Irfan Pathan Suggests Change In MI Captaincy
Following the match, Irfan Pathan suggested that if Jasprit Bumrah had bowled another over in the powerplay, MI could have restricted SRH to about 250 runs.
“Mumbai Indians would have kept the Sunrisers’ score at 250 runs had Hardik Pandya given another over to Jasprit Bumrah when Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were batting. Bumrah was Mumbai’s best bowler in the game, but Hardik didn’t give him his second over until the 13th over. Despite chasing a big total of 277, Mumbai lost the game by just 31 runs. They still managed 246 runs in 20 overs,”
he said.
Mumbai Indians scored 246 runs while chasing the record total and lost by 31 runs. If Sunrisers Hyderabad was stopped somewhere around 250, MI could have realistically won the match.
