Irfan Pathan On MS Dhoni Coming Up The Order: Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan believes that MS Dhoni should be promoted up the batting order for the Chennai Super Kings and should come in to bat sound the 16th over.
CSK took on the Punjab Kings in their most recent match. It was not the best batting performance by the five-time champs, as they faltered to 145/5 at the end of the 18th over when Dhoni walked into bat.
Unlike on most occasions when Dhoni has been able to score some crucial runs in just a few balls, the 42-year-old scored only 14 runs on 11 balls. But this just showed how he could’ve had a bigger impact with just a few balls.
In the games before this one, Dhoni had scored 96 runs with a strike rate of over 300 without getting out even once. His stats are still elite following that performance. After he ran out on the last ball, Dhoni now has an average of 100 in IPL 2024 with a strike rate of 229.17.
Fans have been urging the veteran wicketkeeper to come up the order for CSK, but he hasn’t budged from his stance of coming in late and wreaking havoc.
Irfan Pathan On MS Dhoni Coming Up The Order
Irfan Pathan, who has been a commentator throughout IPL 2024 for Star Sports, recently suggested that Dhoni should come in to bat in the 16th over, despite how many wickets have fallen at that point.
“No complaints, but I want to see MS Dhoni coming out earlier, probably in the 16th over. I know he doesn’t want to be out early in the innings, but he should consider it. If he starts batting from the 16th over, CSK will benefit as his strokes can lift the scoring rate while batting first, and the team can win matches while batting second,” said Pathan.
Irfan Pathan then went on to point out how fans would also like to see Dhoni bat just a little more each match, saying,
“Even the fans want to see more of him if the current season is his last in the Indian Premier League. I feel that seeing his fitness, Dhoni can continue for many more years with him; you never know what is coming next.”
In the match against PBKS, CSK only managed to put up a score of 162, which the team from Punjab chased down in the 18th over. Following that loss, CSK is fourth on the league table with five wins and 10 points in 10 matches.
The Super Kings’s next game will be a rematch against the Punjab Kings, this time in Dharamshala’s HPCA Stadium on May 5.
