IPL Captains Catch Up Ahead Of The 2025 Season: Captains of all the 10 Indian Premier League teams met up and reunited today for a meet-up ahead of IPL 2025.
Before the start of each season, captains of all the teams are brought together for a photo shoot with the trophy. As with the 2025 season around the corner, that photoshoot is happening today.
Nine out of 10 captains this season are Indians, with most of them being in their 20s. First, we will look at the teams that appointed new skippers. Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders did not retain their league-winning captain Shreyas Iyer and have now appointed veteran Ajinkya Rahane to lead the team. Iyer will instead lead the Punjab Kings.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru picked Rajat Patidar as their skipper, the Delhi chose Axar Patel after letting go of Rishabh Pant, who will instead lead the Lucknow Super Giants.
The teams that retained and kept their former captain are – Mumbai Indians and Hardik Panya, Chennai Super Kings and Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajasthan Royals and Sanju Samson, Gujarat Titans and Shubman Gill, and Sunrisers Hyderabad with Pat Cummins, the last of the bunch being the only overseas skipper in the league this season.

With teams looking to pick younger captains in IPL 2025, there are several skippers in the league that will lead players quite senior to them. For example, Rajat Patidar, while captaining RCB, will also lead Virat Kohli, similarly, Hardik Panya will captain Rohit Sharma, and Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead MS Dhoni
The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League will commence on Saturday, March 22, and will see defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
