IPL auction: More than 1300 players have registered themselves with the BCCI for the upcoming IPL mini auction, which will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16.
The BCCI shared this long list with the 10 franchises, who will have to return their wish list to the Indian board, after which the auction pool of around 400 players will be set up.
While several young and experienced players have thrown their names in the ring to be part of IPL 2026, three overseas players who have been a regular feature in the IPL over the past decade have opted to pull out of the IPL auction this year.
IPL Auction 2026: 3 Superstar Overseas Players Who Have Pulled Out Of IPL Mini Auction
Faf du Plessis
After being released from the Delhi Capitals, former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis confirmed on social media that he will not be part of the IPL mini auction and instead will feature in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), whose window clashes directly with the IPL.
Faf made his IPL debut in 2012 for CSK. He has played for four teams: Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals.
Du Plessis, aged 41 currently, had a disappointing IPL 2025 season, where he scored 202 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 123. He was a key player in CSK’s title-winning campaigns in 2018 and 2021 and then led RCB to playoffs twice.
He was bought at his base price last season, and with the possibility that he could go unsold in the IPL mini auction, the South African decided to return to the PSL, where he last featured in 2021.
Glenn Maxwell
Another IPL overseas icon who has decided to skip the IPL auction 2026 is Australian powerhouse all-rounder Glenn Maxwell.
Maxwell was released by the Punjab Kings, who had bought him in last year’s mega auction after RCB released him. He had had two disastrous IPL seasons: 52 runs in 10 games in IPL 2024 and 47 runs in 7 games in IPL 2025. A finger injury ended his IPL 2025 campaign prematurely, and he was replaced by Mitch Owen, who has been retained by PBKS.
Glenn Maxwell made his IPL debut in 2012 for Delhi Capitals. He won the 2013 IPL title with the Mumbai Indians and had a whirlwind season in 2014 for Punjab, but since then, the Australian has had many underwhelming IPL seasons even as he continued to rack up huge amounts in the auction.
Maxwell’s plans during the April-May window are not clear yet.
Moeen Ali
A two-time IPL winner with CSK, England all-rounder Moeen Ali has pulled out of the IPL mini auction, and he will play in the PSL 2026.
Moeen will be remembered in the IPL circle for his all-round performances for CSK from 2021 to 2024. Before that, he played three seasons for RCB and was picked up by KKR for IPL 2025 but managed only five runs and six wickets last season.
