IPL 2025 Playoffs Scenario For MI RCB PBKS: The IPL 2025 stands on an exciting note. As of May 1, 50 matches have been done and dusted, and we have entered the business end of the tournament, where each result could have a huge impact on the qualification of the teams.
A couple of teams have already been knocked out of the playoffs race in IPL 2025. Chennai Super Kings, who were initially led by Ruturaj Gaikwad and then MS Dhoni took over after Gaikwad’s shoulder injury, were the first team to be eliminated from the playoffs contention. Then, the Rajasthan Royals became the second team to be cast aside from the race to the next round.
After match 50, the re-surging Mumbai Indians (MI) are at the top of the points table, having recorded a six-game winning streak. They are followed by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). In the middle of the table, remaining alive are five more teams.
Let us look at the playoffs qualification and other scenarios for MI, RCB, and PBKS in IPL 2025.
IPL 2025 Playoffs Scenario For MI RCB PBKS
Mumbai Indians: Played: 11, Points: 14, NRR: 1.124
MI are one of the seasons where they started slowly and then picked up momentum to blow others away. After losing four of their first five matches, they have now won six in a row and have one foot in the playoffs, courtesy of their healthy net run rate and three games in hand.
Not just this, but now the aim for Mumbai Indians will be to finish in the top two—a realistic possibility given they are in great form and have two home games left.
Even if MI lose all their three matches, they are likely to qualify for the playoffs because of their good NRR.
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Played: 10, Points: 14, NRR: 0.521
RCB have stunned everyone by winning all their six away matches so far. At home, though, they have won only one out of four. RCB have 14 points in their kitty and four games left to play.
Two wins out of the four remaining matches are likely to see them into the playoffs, but it wouldn’t guarantee a top-two finish. They have three home games left, though they haven’t done too well at home this season.
It’s mathematically possible for as many as seven teams to end at 16 points. So, RCB will have to lose at least three games and by huge margins to not be able to qualify for the playoffs.
Punjab Kings: Played: 10, Points: 13, NRR: 0.199
Under Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings are playing an attractive brand of cricket. They have recorded some impressive wins away from home, including in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Jaipur.
PBKS have 13 points in 10 games. They are far from feeling safe as six teams can finish on 16 points. They can qualify for playoffs on 15 points, too, but then they would require some other results to go their way.
