IPL 2024 playoffs scenario: Match number 66 of IPL 2024, between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, was washed out without the toss being conducted at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. This washout and the resultant one-point distribution to each team meant that SRH became the third team to qualify for the playoffs.
This, though, also meant that SRH’s hopes of finishing in the top two have taken a dent as they are now not in total control of a top-two finish.
SRH, who are placed third in the points table, have 15 points and one game in hand, and Rajasthan Royals are placed second with 16 points and a game left. So if RR win their last match, they will finish second in the league stage, and SRH will miss this opportunity even if they win their remaining fixture.
For Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill’s team was already out of the playoff race. They didn’t get to try out some players as their last two matches of the season—against KKR and against SRH—got washed out.
KKR, RR, and SRH have qualified for the playoffs. This leaves Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Lucknow Super Giants in contention for the remaining playoff spot.

IPL 2024 playoffs scenario after the SRH vs GT washout:
CSK and RCB will face each other for their last match in the league phase at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. CSK have 14 points and RCB have 12 points, and their net run rates are close.
The equation for both teams is pretty straightforward. RCB need to beat CSK by 18 runs, assuming they score 200 runs while batting first, or if they are chasing 200, they need to chase it down in 18.1 overs. CSK need to win this match to proceed to the playoffs. Or if CSK are to lose this game, they need to avoid losing by the above-mentioned margin, and they will still qualify.
CSK, interestingly, can also finish in the second spot if CSK win their last game, RR lose their last game, and SRH lose their last game (CSK’s NRR is already better than RR).
Although LSG and DC are still mathematically alive, their poor net run rates (-0.377 of DC and -0.787 of LSG) mean that it’s all but impossible for them to reach the playoffs.
