IPL 2024 Might Move To Dubai: The 2024 season of the Indian Premier League might move to Dubai for the second half of the season on account of the dates possibly clashing with the Indian general elections.
While the schedule for IPL 204 has been released, the released schedule only goes up to 21 matches, with the 21st match being between the Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans on April 7.
This is because of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the dates for which have yet to be released. Historically, IPL has always had to maneuver around the general elections. In 2009, the tournament was played in South Africa. In 2014, the first few matches of the tournament, the dates for which clashed with the elections, were played in Dubai.

As for the 2019 season, it was carefully crafted around the dates and where the voting was on a particular day, so the tournament and the voting dates in a particular region did not clash.
The same approach could have been taken this season as well, but the election dates are yet to be announced and the tournament is less than a week away.
IPL 2024 Might Move To Dubai
A source from within the BCCI told the Times of India that the second half of IPL 2024 might be played in Dubai. This will be decided after the Election Commission announces the election schedule.
“The Election Commission of India will announce the election schedule on Saturday at 3 pm. After that, the BCCI will decide whether IPL matches should be moved to Dubai. Currently, a few top BCCI officials are in Dubai to explore the possibility of organizing the second half of the IPL in Dubai,” the source claimed.
Reports recently emerged that IPL teams have asked their players to submit their passports, which suggests that some part of the tournament will be played abroad.
The last time IPL was played in Dubai was in 2021 when the tournament was stopped midway because of the second wave of Covid-19. Because of this, the latter portions of the tournament that season were played in Dubai.
IPL 2024 will kick off on March 22, when defending champions Chennai Super Kings take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
