Tributes poured in for Septain Raharja on social media following his death as people were not only saddened by a player dying on pitch but also utterly shocked by the visual.
While it was not a proper FIFA-sanctioned match, FIFA rules do state that a match should be halted if lightning is seen or thunder is heard and players should not return to the field for at least 30 minutes.
Tragically, this is the second incident of a player being struck by lightning in Indonesia in the past 12 months. In the other instance, a U13 player was struck, but managed to survive the ordeal, suffering a cardiac arrest and losing consciousness for 20 minutes.
