India Wins Bronze Medal In Hockey Paris Olympics: The Indian Men’s Hockey Team won the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics after defeating Spain 2-1 in the bronze medal match. This marks the first occasion that the Indian hockey team has won consecutive Olympic medals for two games in a row in 52 years.
After a splendid run in Pool B, which saw team India lose only one match against Belgium and concluded with India’s first Olympic win against Australia since 1972, the Indian team took on Great Britain in the quarterfinal and won that match in the penalty shootout. This was after defending against GB for about 42 minutes with one man down.
In the semi-final, India had an excellent match against Germany. The two teams matched up in the bronze medal match at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. But this time, it was the Germans who came out on top 3-2.

India took on Spain in the bronze medal match at the 2024 Olympics. This Spanish team had been thrashed 4-0 by the Netherlands in the semi-finals. The Asian Champions certainly went into this match as the favourites.
The first quarter saw India create some decent chances but miss from within the circle. While we missed a couple of decent chances, the signs were good in the first quarter.
But the second period started with Spain on top. In the 18th minute, the Spaniards created a penalty stroke, which was converted by midfield maestro Marc Miralles into the first goal of the match, 1-0 Spain.
For the next few minutes, Spain took control of the game, creating another PC just a couple of minutes later. They started taking a turn once more towards the end of the first quarter. In the 30th minute, India created their second PC of the game. While they tried a variation on the first one, this one was straightforward. Captain Harmanpreet Singh took the shot and scored 1-1.
Both teams looked to attack right after halftime, but it was India who created better chances. In the 33rd minute, we created another penalty corner, which was once again converted by Harmanpreet, who scored his 11th goal of the tournament, 2-1.
Spain created a PC right after, which was easily defended by the Indian rushers. In the 40th minute, Spain’s Marc Recasens was able to slot the ball at the back of the net, but the ball had touched his body right before he took the shot, so no goal.

As the third quarter came to an end, one thing was clear: PR Sreejesh, the veteran Indian goalkeeper who was playing the last match of his international career and has had an excellent tournament so far, is on his A-game once again.
The final quarter was spent by the Indian team defending, breaking the opposition attack, but not being able to build solid attacks of their own. A masterclass in defending for the next 15 minutes. Well, not quite so. India did commit a few found in their circle, which resulted in penalty strokes for Spain, but those were defended well.
With 40-odd seconds remaining, Spain received another PC, which was once again defended by Inida, who was able to keep the ball for the remainder of the game and won. After a bronze medal in Tokyo, the Indian Men’s Hockey Team won yet another bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This was the first time that an Indian hockey team had won a medal at two consecutive Olympics since 1972. India won bronze in the 1968 Mexico City and 1972 Munich Olympics.
This match was also a perfect send-off to PR Sreejesh, who celebrated his second Olympic medal with his classic celebration of sitting on the goalpost.
