India vs Pakistan 2024 T20 World Cup Match Report: India defeated Pakistan by six runs in match 19 of the 2024 T20 World Cup in what has been one of the most nail-biting encounters of the tournament so far.
The arch-rivals put up an excellent showcase in Group A of the tournament. A match delayed due to rain saw Pakistan win the toss and decide to bowl first in New York’s Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

The first over of the game saw captain Rohit Sharma score eight runs before the rain stopped the match for the final time on the day. The very next over saw Virat Kohli open his inning with a textbook cover drive before immediately handing a catch to point.
Rohit departed soon after as India looked in a bit of trouble. But from there, Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel, who was promoted up the order at no.4, built a solid partnership.
After looking good for some time, Axar looked to walk down the pitch to hit Naseem Shah for a four but was bowled instead for 20. At this point, India was 58/3 in the eighth over and Rishabh Pant was playing a very risky inning.

Pant then supported Suryakumar Yadav a little and the score was 89/3 in the 12th over when Surya lost his wicket and the collapse kicked off.
Shivam Dube came and went quickly, and then Rishabh Pant’s inning ended right after. On the very next ball, Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed for a golden duck to bring the score to 96/7.
Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh took India past 100. But when Hardik was dismissed at 112, the India inning did not have much life left. Some crucial runs at the end took India to 119 when the team was all out in just 19 overs.
It was a very unpredictable and difficult pitch to bat on in New York, so realistically, the match was still more than on from India’s point of view.
The Men in Blue took a lot of time taking their first wicket, dismissing only Babar Azam in the powerplay as Jasprit Bumrah scalped him. From that point, Mohammad Rizwan and Usman Khan built a solid partnership that all but took the game away from India.

Pakistan went past the 50-run mark in the ninth over. And when lost his wicket, they were 57/2. Fakhar Zaman hit a couple of boundaries and was dismissed too, but Pakistan reached the 80-run mark with about a run a ball required with seven wickets in hand. This match in the greatest rivalry had one more twist in store.
Jasprit Bumrah, who had looked lethal in his first two overs, was brought back in the 15th over and immediately bowled Rizwan, who scored just 31 runs in 44 balls but was the backbone of the Pakistan inning. Match on!
While the Men in Green did not start losing wickets at the rate India did in their inning, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya bowled a lot of dot balls from here, while picking a few wickets in between.
From 40-off-36 required when Rizwan was dismissed, to 30 required off the last three overs. Mohammed Siraj and Jaspreet Bumrah bowled economical 18th and 19th over, leaving 18 runs to score in the last over.
And while Naseem Shah showed some fight in the end, India won the match by six runs.
For his fiery bowling throughout the second inning, Jasprit Bumrah was named the Player of the Match.
This match meant a lot in so many aspects. Of course, this was a big result for the fans of both teams, for better or for worse. But this match also cleared a lot of things for Group A.
India is now at the top of the group with four points in two matches and a net run rate of +1.455. The USA is second with four points in two matches and a net run rate of +0.626.
Pakistan is fourth in the group with zero wins in two games and a net run rate of -0/150. A qualification to the Super 8 for Pakistan is now out of their own hands, as they need the US to lose both their matches and themselves to win both their remaining. If the USA wins their match agains India (unlikely) or Ireland, they will unbelievably qualify for the Super 8.
For India, even a single win against the USA or Canada will suffice.
