Team India will begin their Test season with five Tests at home. Rohit Sharma’s team will host Bangladesh for two Tests starting September 19, and New Zealand for three Tests starting October 16.
India are expected to win these two series comfortably and strengthen their position in the World Test Championship points table. But the biggest test for them will be the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 later this year in Australia.
For the first time since 1991/92, India and Australia will compete in a five-match Test series. The five-match rubber will begin on November 22 and conclude on January 7.
India are the current holders of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and have defeated Australia in their last four Test series, including winning twice in Australia on the 2018/19 and 2020/21 tours. India are the only Asian team to have won a Test series in Australia.
Will India make a hat-trick of Test series wins in Australia? Wasim Jaffer gives an interesting reply.
Former India batsman Wasim Jaffer recently hosted a Q&A session with his Twitter followers. One fan asked him to make a prediction about the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 later this year in Australia.
While Jaffer didn’t make an outright prediction, he did declare India as favorites on the condition that India’s three premier seamers, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, remain fit and available for the series.
Wasim Jaffer further added that in support of these three first-choice seamers, India could pick left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh for his left-arm angle and young speedster Mayank Yadav for his express pace. He reckons Arshdeep and Mayank could be the X-factors for Team India on Australian surfaces.
Jaffer replied, “If Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj stay fit and are able to play most of the series, India have a great opportunity for a hat-trick down under. Arshdeep could bring the left arm option. And Mayank Yadav dark horse provided he’s fit and available. #AUSvIND”
