India squad vs Australia T20I Series: While the players and the fans still mourn and celebrate – depending on which side of the result you ended – the conclusion of the World Cup 2023 final, the two teams, India and Australia, will soon go head-to-head in a 5-match T20I series, albeit with most different players than the ones who played in the final a couple of days ago in Ahmedabad.
India will have a new captain in Suryakumar Yadav because Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah are rested while Hardik Pandya is injured. Australia will be led by Matthew Wade; however, Mitchell Marsh is likely to be Australia’s permanent T20I skipper going forward.
India squad vs Australia T20I Series:
Suryakumar Yadav is the No. 1 T20I batsman in the world. He would like to leave his struggles with the bat in the World Cup behind him and focus on this assignment as India aim to build a squad for next year’s T20 World Cup, which is roughly 6 months away.
This will be the first opportunity for Suryakumar Yadav to lead India. He has captained the Mumbai domestic teams in 36 games, and this year he captained the Mumbai Indians in one match against KKR in the IPL 2023 when Rohit was unavailable.
From the World Cup squad, Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, and Ishan Kishan have been picked, while others have been rested; Shreyas Iyer will return to play in the last two T20Is and is the vice-captain for those games. For the first three matches, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad is the deputy to Suryakumar. Gaikwad led India to a Gold Medal in the Asian Games a couple of months ago in China.
The two big omissions from the squad are Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal. Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma, two players who made headlines in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament, are also ignored.
Jitesh Sharma is picked as the second wicketkeeper in the squad, while young Ravi Bishnoi is the leg-spinner. Axar Patel makes his return from a quadriceps strain injury. Spinning all-rounder Washington Sundar and pace-bowling all-rounder Shivam Dube are selected.
As per the India squad for Australia series, VVS Laxman, the NCA Head, will take on the interim head coach role for this series as Rahul Dravid’s contract has not yet been extended.
