India Squad for Womens T20 World Cup 2024 Revealed: India announced their 15-person squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, and the team is filled with stars.
The Women’s T20 World Cup will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and will commence on October 3. This means we are just over a month away from the start of the competition.
The tournament will see 10 teams participate. The nationals will be divided into two groups of five each, the top two of which will qualify for the semi-finals. The Indian Women’s Cricket Team will be in a tough group but is still expected to make it to the next round. Group A consists of India, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
The final, which will be played on October 20, will be played in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
This is the ninth edition of this tournament, the first being played in 2009. It returns to Asia for the first time since 2016 when it was played in India. Australia goes into the event as the defending champions, winning the 2023 edition. In fact, Australia has won six out of eight T20 World Cups so far, the remaining two being won by England (2009) and the West Indies (2016).
India Squad for Womens T20 World Cup 2024
India has announced the squad for the 2024 World Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian captain across all formats, will be the skipper of this unit, with star-batter Smriti Mandhana being the vice-captain.
It will be a star-studded batting line-up for the Women in Blue. Kaur and Mandhana will be joined by the destructive Shafali Verma, the dependable Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, and wicketkeepers Richa Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia, the latter of whom is still recovering from an injury suffered earlier this year, and her participation has an asterisk in front of it.
Deepti and Shafali are also the team’s best all-rounders. They will form the all-rounder core of this team alongside Asha Sobhana and Sajeevan Sajana. Pooja Vastrakar is an experienced bowling all-rounder. Dayalan Hemalatha is a solid top-order batter who can also provide crucial overs of spin. Shreyanka Patil is the newest Indian sensation. A fine bowler who can bat lower down the order. But she too is recovering from injury, making her place in the team dependent upon her recovery.
India has a dependable and experienced bowling attack led by Radha Yadav. Meanwhile, Arundhati Reddy and Renuka Singh Thakur will be India’s frontline pacers.
As for travelling reserves, these are players who will move into the main squad if any of the players are ousted with an injury. These include wicketkeeper Uma Chetry, spinner Tanuja Kanwar, and pacer Saima Thakor.
There are also two non-travelling reserves announced, which is a highly unusual practice for teams announcing squads for a World Cup. These are uncapped all-rounder Raghvi Bisht and uncapped bowler Priya Mishra.
