BCCI announced India’s T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming Sri Lanka series. The squad comes with some surprise entries, so let’s look into it.
Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are back in the ODI squad as per the request of the new head coach, Gautam Gambhir. This will boost the confidence in the relatively younger dressing room. This will also end the chances of KL Rahul becoming the ODI captain for now, as Rohit will lead the team.
Suryakumar Yadav got the captain’s responsibilities for the T20 side. Earlier, it was Hardik Pandya’s name that was loud for this role, but the selection committee decided to go with the sky. Pandya, though, is still in the T20I squad.
Shreyas Iyer got a callback for both the T20I and ODI squads after a long break from the national team. Iyer was out along with Ishan Kishan due to not getting the central contract from BCCI. His stunning IPL 2024 triumph with KKR paved the way for the youngster to join the team.
Riyan Parag, who was terrific in the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals, also got a seat in both ODIs and T20Is.
On the other hand, Sanju Samson, who has been the best wicketkeeper batter in the country, only got the call for T20Is.
