India Squad For ICC Champions Trophy 2025: As Team India continue to lick their wounds from the 3-1 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, the action would, in a couple of weeks, shift back to white-ball cricket with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 being the next ICC marquee event.
India will host England for a five-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series before flying to Dubai, where they will play their Champions Trophy matches, while the other matches of the competition will be held in Pakistan.
In the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India are placed in Group A, where they will face Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand.
Talking about India’s squad, firstly, the captain will be Rohit Sharma, who led the side brilliantly in the ICC World Cup 2023, where India won all their matches except for the final.

The other big news is that Mohammed Shami, who last played international cricket in the World Cup 2023 final and has missed all action for India since then due to an ankle injury, is fit and firing in domestic cricket. He is expected to make his India comeback with the ODI series against England, and if he remains fit till then, regardless of his bowling rhythm, then Shami would surely be a lock in the Champions Trophy squad.
India are currently fretting over the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah after he pulled out halfway from the Sydney Test due to back spasms. India would be hoping that Bumrah’s spasms are not serious and he is fit for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Rohit and Virat Kohli, despite their low returns in Test cricket, remain key cogs of the ODI team. Shubman Gill will be Rohit’s opening partner, though Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a compelling case to be handed an ODI debut.
With Rishabh Pant back, it would be interesting to see whether India pick KL Rahul in the middle order, as he did a superb job in that role during the World Cup. Shreyas Iyer, too, had a great World Cup tournament at No. 4 but then was shuffled down during the Sri Lanka ODIs earlier this year.
Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the two all-rounders who hold a certain place in the XI. Kuldeep Yadav missed the Test series in Australia because of a groin injury, and he is expected to be fit for the England ODIs and the following Champions Trophy.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is uncapped in ODIs, and Shivam Dube, who played in Sri Lanka, are the backup options for Pandya. Axar Patel is expected to be picked in the 15-man squad, though Washington Sundar is also a tempting choice: Sundar is an off-spinning all-rounder, while India already have Jadeja, a like-for-like of Axar, in the side.
Mohammed Siraj would pair Shami and Bumrah in the pace department. Arshdeep Singh and Khaleel Ahmed are further backup options as seamers.
