India squad for first Test vs Bangladesh: India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is back in the Test squad for the first time since his car accident in 2022, as he’s been named in the squad for the first Test against Bangladesh later this month.
India will host Bangladesh for two Tests, starting on September 19. The first test will be played in Chennai, and the second will be played in Kanpur. The BCCI named a 16-man squad on Sunday for the opening Test of the series.
This squad includes Pant, who last played Test cricket in December 2022, the same month he suffered a car accident. He made his IPL, T20I, and ODI comeback earlier this year and now is looking likely to slot back in India’s playing XI for the first Test against Bangladesh ahead of Dhruv Jurel, who impressed in his debut Test series earlier at home against England.
Pant made his red-ball comeback recently with the Duleep Trophy 2024 and cracked 61 (47) in India B’s second innings.
Virat Kohli, who missed the England Tests due to the birth of his son, and KL Rahul, who missed the last four Tests against England due to injury, are back.
Akash Deep, who made his debut against England, is part of the squad. Akash picked up nine wickets in the Duleep Trophy game to strengthen his claim, although, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the squad, he is set to be on the bench.
Yash Dayal gets his maiden Test call-up
With the five-Test tour of Australia in mind, the selectors and management have given left-arm pacer Yash Dayal his maiden call-up to the Test squad. Dayal has snapped 76 wickets in 24 first-class games at an average of 28. He picked up three wickets in the last innings of the Duleep Trophy encounter he participated in to help his side, India B, to a victory.
From the squad of the Test series against England, India have left out Rajat Patidar, KS Bharat, Devdutt Padikkal, Washington Sundar, and Mukesh Kumar.
