India squad for Afghanistan T20I Series: After a long layback from the shortest format in international cricket, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli return when India host Afghanistan in the upcoming T20I series, which starts on January 11.
As announced by the BCCI on Sunday (January 7), the squad features Rohit Sharma as a captain and also a notable return of the fan-favorite Sanju Samson apart from Virat Kohli.
The last time Virat and Rohit wore the pads in T20I was during the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal against England at the Adelaide Oval in Australia.
Apart from Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma has also been chosen as a wicketkeeper option for this series, which serves as India’s final T20I contest before the 2024 World Cup.

With Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav recovering from injuries, several key players, such as Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj, are not part of the selected squad.
The pace bowling department features Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar, while the spin options include Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.
The three-match series is scheduled to commence on January 11 in Mohali.
