India probable XI for 1st T20I vs Sri Lanka: India will tour Sri Lanka for six white-ball games – three T20Is and three ODIs. The tour will kick off on July 27 with the T20I series. For the first time since 2021, India will tour Sri Lanka and play a T20I series.
India are the recently crowned T20 world champions. The Men In Blue clinched their second T20 World Cup trophy last month by defeating South Africa in the final in Barbados and went unbeaten in the entire tournament.
A change of guard was pushed following the T20 World Cup triumph, as Rohit Sharma, the captain, and senior players Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirements from the T20I format.
This series against Sri Lanka will mark the start of India’s preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by both these nations.

India have a new skipper at the helm in T20Is: Suryakumar Yadav. While Hardik Pandya was the vice-captain in the T20 World Cup, the selectors and the management, headed by new head coach Gautam Gambhir, felt Hardik’s fitness and workload concerns didn’t make him the best fit to be India’s T20I skipper since he could miss games. Shubman Gill, then, was elevated to the white-ball vice-captain position.
In the opposition camp, Sri Lanka also have a new captain in Charith Asalanka after Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down from the position following Sri Lanka’s early group-stage exit from the T20 World Cup 2024.
Speaking about India’s combination, their new-era T20I team is likely to look similar to their T20 World Cup side with a few changes.
Ꮪhubman Gill, who was not picked in the T20 World Cup squad, and Jaiswal, who was on the bench throughout the competition, are set to replace Rohit and Kohli at the top. Washington Sundar, who was Man of the Series in Zimbabwe, is expected to take Jadeja’s place in the XI. Since Kuldeep is rested, Ravi Bishnoi is likely to get the nod against Sri Lanka.
Rishabh Pant had an underwhelming T20 World Cup with the bat. He could be replaced by Sanju Samson, who was part of the 15-man squad but didn’t get a game. Mohammed Siraj would slot back in the side with Bumrah rested.
