India Makes Largest Score In Women Test Cricket: The Indian women’s cricket team notched up the biggest total in the history of women’s Test cricket today against South Africa.
Indian women are taking on South African women in a four-day one-off Test match in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram stadium. Today was Day 2 of the Test match, and India started having already scored a whopping 525 runs on the first day.
Richa Ghosh and captain Harmanpreet Kaur were on strike as the day started. The two soon surpassed 575 runs, which was the previous record for the largest total in women’s Test cricket, set by Australia against South Africa in February 2024.

After scoring 69 runs, Harmanpreet was dismissed as the team score was 593/5. Soon after India crossed the 600-run mark, Richa Ghosh lost her wicket, and India declared their inning with a score of 603/6.
The biggest hero of India’s brilliant inning was Shafali Verma. The 20-year-old explosive opener scored the fastest double-century in women’s Test cricket, doing so in just 194.
Star batter Smriti Mandhana too played a big role in the Indian inning, scoring a fine century; her 149-off-161 was the second-biggest individual score of the inning.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh scored half-centuries on Day 2, while Jemimah Rodrigues did that on Day 1.
The South African inning did not get off to the best start. In just the eighth over, at a score of 33, captain Laura Wolvaardt was dismissed by Sneh Rana.
A decent partnership then formed between Anneke Bosch and Sune Luus as the two batted for over 20 overs and took the team close to 100 runs before Bosch became Rana’s second wicket.
Sune Luus and all-rounder Marizanne Kapp then took hold of the South African inning, both scoring their 50s before Luss was dismissed by Deepti Sharma, and the score was 189/3. Dalmari Tucker then came in to bat and was dismissed for a duck by Sneh Rana.
As Day 2 ended, South Africa was 236/4, trailing by 367 runs with almost no chance of winning this game.
