India Champions Trophy 2025 SWOT Analysis: The Indian Cricket Team will enter the ICC Champions Trophy 2024 with a weight off their shoulder. The team had not won an ICC tournament since 2013 despite being the best team in the world. But now, having won the 2024 T20 World Cup, India has shaken off the “choker” tag and will come into CT 2025 with probably the best squad in the tournament. So, will India be able to lift the Champions Trophy after breaking their ICC tournament curse? What are India chances of winning CT 2025?
Firstly, we will look at the 15-man India squad for the upcoming tournament—
Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Shami, and Arshdeep Singh.
India Champions Trophy 2025 SWOT Analysis
Strengths
India enters this competition as the favourite to win it all. This team doesn’t only have the strongest squad in this Champions Trophy but has also broken their curse of losing in ICC tournaments by winning the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Let’s start with their batting, which is the most star-studded lineup in the world. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are known to do well in ICC competitions, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer are in solid form, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant can win a game on their own, while Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are proven match-winners with bat and bowl.
Speaking of Hardik and Jadeja, the two are part of probably the best all-rounder unit in this tournament as well, along with Axar Patel and Washington Sundar.
Then comes the bowling, which is being considered the weakest link in this side, which is wild if we consider that an in-form Varun Chakravarthy, ICC tournament legend Mohammed Shami, arguably the best spinner in the world Kuldeep Yadav, and white-ball specialist Arshdeep Singh are all in this squad.
This tournament might also be the last chance for several veterans in the squad, like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami, to win their last ICC trophy.
Finally, we arrived at this team’s form. The Indian Cricket Team is in wonderful form in white-ball cricket. In the recent tour of England, the Men in Blue thrashed the Three Lions 4-1 in the T20I series and 3-0 in the ODI series. Before that, they won four T20I series in South Africa against the Proteas.

Weaknesses
For such a star-studded team, their biggest weakness is one of those stars missing. Jasprit Bumrah is the best cricketer in the world at the moment, having also been named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024. But he will miss the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury. Also missing this competition is the highest Test run-scorer and ultra-attacking batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was dropped at the last minute.
Yet another big weakness of this side is the form of some of its biggest players. While Rohit Sharma did score a recent hundred, he did so on a flat track against a weak England side, something they will not get against stronger teams on the tricky tracks of Dubai. Virat Kohli has also been in dismal form as of late but scored a 50 against England as well.
Opportunities
This team has the opportunity to do what no Indian side has in 12 years and win an ODI ICC Trophy. Having last won the Champions Trophy in 2013, India will look to win CT 2025 on their way to reclaiming all the ICC titles.
They also have an opportunity to adapt to the pitches they are playing on like no other team in this competition. As India will play all their games in Dubai, they can suit their team according to those pitches and make it a fortress, an opportunity not even tournament hosts Pakistan will have.

Threats
The threats to this side lie in where they will play this competition. The tricky pitches in Dubai are very different from the flatter Pakistani surfaces. The memories of the 2021 T20 World Cup, played in the UAE with New Zealand and Pakistan in the group weigh heavily on the minds of the fans. But for the team, it should not bother them much.
A bigger threat to this side is the possibility of succumbing under the weight of their own expectations. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is being looked upon by India as the passing of the baton to the next generation. So if the team performs poorly in this competition, it might have an adverse effect on the coming years of Indian cricket.
India expected playing XI:
Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Shami, Varun Chakravarthy
